Brunswick is the number one R&D region in the European Union. Over 16,000 students are registered at the Technical University, the College of Higher Education and the School of Arts. 14,400 of them are studying technical subjects. Fourteen internationally acclaimed research establishments are located here, providing Brunswick with a large academic and research potential.

In addition, highly trained staff (e.g. at the German Bureau of Standards, Federal Agricultural Research Institute, Federal Biological Institute for Agricultural and Forestry Sciences).

Cooperation between the economy, science and politics has led to joint undertakings in the economic and scientific fields in Brunswick: one example is the international prize for R&D, the Braunschweig Prize. This is awarded for research and development that is technologically applicable and environmentally-friendly (it is the largest economic prize awarded by a city in Germany).
Brunswick lies at the cross-roads between Northern and Southern Europe (Denmark – Italy) and Eastern and Western Europe (Poland – the Benelux countries). The city's connections to the freeways, railway network and Hannover Airport guarantee good transportation links for national and international destinations. Wherever you want to go in the city, it's never more than a stone's throw away. From the city center to the business parks or to the outskirts of town, you'll get there in just a few minutes by car or using public transportation.
All the business parks listed are well connected to the freeways: like the one north of the regional airport or the one in the city center, the "ARTmax", a focal point of inner city services. The Technology Park on one of Brunswick's main roads, the Rebenring, is close to the center of the city. The new joint-community Industrial Park "Waller See" is being created in the west and the BioTec Start-up Center is located in the south right next door to the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research.
