Brunswick has been shaped by the "spirit of research" for more than 250 years with the oldest technical university in Germany and its 7,000 employees at research facilities. Innovation, know-how, imagination and creativity are not only a given in the area of natural sciences, with the approx. 14,000 registered students and their 250 professors. Institutes of basic and applied research go hand in hand. A number of superior research centers provide proof of the interdisciplinary character of these centers, such as the Biotechnology Start-up Center or the Aerospace Center with avionics activities at Brunswick’s Research Airport.
The high density of research encourages interdisciplinary networking with the numerous other research facilities present in Brunswick. In this way, scientists at universities/colleges, research facilities and institutes are able to work out solutions to sophisticated problems and ensure necessary technology transfer between industry and research.
The innovative climate in the city is supported and underlined by Brunswick's international prizes for science and research.
